Rooted - Day Twenty-Four

Rooted

Acadia…
We awoke about an hour and a half
from the Acadia park entrance…

Seven plus hours later…
we managed to crisscross
beautiful backroads,
the Chicken Barn used book store
Fort Knox and
observatory tower…

Coffee
Gas
Coffee
Gas

And finally arrived at Sand Beach
late in the afternoon…

I love adventures like this -

A final destination -
with ample freedom for
discovery along the way…

We’ve crisscrossed the world like this…
and have found that some of our BEST ADVENTURES together are
unplanned
unplugged
uncharted
backroad
EXPERIENCES.

Kind of like the one
we’ve just accomplished -
setting up tents in the dark
with inexperienced campers…

The absolute highlight of my day -
finding ways to celebrate our Kat…
our history buff…

So we toured Fort Knox -
Rode the elevator to the tippy top
of the bridge observatory -

And made the mandatory stop
at an old vintage book store… and
hiked the majestic Great Head Trail…

We stopped along the Loop Trail
where a tiny little cove
sits deep in the woods.

The round pebble rocks
echoed loudly
as we walked
towards the water’s edge.

Of course, Leah Margaret
had to give me
a near heart attack
every two minutes
as she climbed
rock walls barefoot
and hung out over cliff edges…

One of the most amazing experiences
was listening to the waves crash
against the rocky shoreline and
then rush back out to sea…

It sounded like beautiful fireworks
popping and crackling with delight…

And now we sit
‘round the campfire…

And the stars overhead
twinkle with delight -
as Leah dangerously
plays with fire and
the mosquitoes nibble
straight through our pj’s.

These are the days…
of beauty and love.
