Rooted - Day Twenty-Six

June 26, 2022
Rooted

It’s pretty ambitious to imagine
packing up a campsite and
hitting the road by 7 AM…

Then driving non-stop home -
ten and a half hours…

So ambitious that it was impossible
with the traveling campers…
and traffic…
and a million needs…

In fact, the sun is just
beginning to set
AND
we’re still driving -

Over potholes…
through cities…
around traffic jams…

Stopping for gas -
rolling our eyes…
jamming to music…
AND
feeling like it might be possible -

WE’RE NEVER GONNA MAKE IT.

Andrei and Dan can’t understand
why the GPS keeps adding time
AND
we’re still driving.

We started with -
MAINE then
NEW HAMPSHIRE,
CONNECTICUT,
MASSACHUSETTS,
NEW YORK,
NEW JERSEY and soon -
PENNSYLVANIA…

The reality is -
we know we’re making
our way HOME.

It’s just FEELS like it’s taking forever.
So many things FEEL like this…
taking forever - and
maybe THAT’S the trap -
the FEELING part.

When emotions get in front…
of reality.
of truth.

And they start dictating our course,
and sometimes -
we change direction
lose our focus
get weary and
sometimes … even give up.

AND NEVER ARRIVE

I have been specifically looking for
wisdom and clarity recently…

This morning, I felt it drop heavily
into my heart…
and my soul…
and my mind…

Keep the course.
Keep going.
It’s right.
It’s good.

“Don’t grow weary
in doing good…

At the proper time
you will reap a harvest
if you don’t give up…”
Galatians 6:9

I’m headed right back into
that little hospice place I left
four days ago…

Rested
Refreshed
Blessed

With a bit more wisdom
a bit more grace
a bit more clarity

AND FOR THIS - I AM GRATEFUL

Finally, we have crossed
into Pennsylvania…
Home is on the horizon.
