Rooted - Day Seven

Rooted

On Day Seven, I can say with confidence -

The LORD is my Shepherd,
I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures…
He leads me beside quiet waters…
He refreshes my soul…
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk -
through the darkest valley…
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me.

Your rod and your staff -
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love -
will follow me…
all the days of my life,

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Skim over the words
If you can…

Grab hold and dissect every line
Until you can’t…

Tonight, I am grateful to find comfort and peace in the God-ordained writings of David, the Shepherd. Psalms 23

A man after God’s own heart.

A man bowed low in worship -
whose heart fell deeply into sin.

His psalms of worship
wax and wane yet
always find their way
back to God.

His nature.
His mercy.
And kindness.

I am overwhelmed tonight
just for a moment…
To grasp, again, the understanding that God’s goodness and mercy follow me - pursue me.

The Great Shepherd -
who whispers my name and
calls me unto Himself…

Pursues me.

Not because I’m deserving…
Not because I’m worthy…
Not because of anything more
Than He chose me.

And because He pursues me -
And calls out to me…
I can sit with Him
at the table where I was once
His enemy.

Yet, now He calls me -
Friend of God.

Through every valley -
He shows His faithfulness…
Even unto death.

I am grateful for dear friends who stopped by unexpectedly today… to chat and share a lunch.

While the wind blew in -
A storm from the west…

We sat on the swing and rocked
Back and forth…
And remembered -

How very good God is.
To set us up with friends and family…
Loved ones and communities…
