Day Seventeen

April 17

Today was a quiet day for us… We made a few stops in the morning to look for something Leah wanted and then went down to the water for a little.

Leah had the brilliant idea to rent motorized scooters and “fly” down the promenade. We have these scooters at home and I’m forever telling the kids to be careful when they zoom around my mom’s neighborhood.

That said, I’ve never ridden one before, but was up for trying something new.

The waters were so blue and beautiful, and then I spotted the snow covered mountain peaks in the distance, and Leah was so adorable with her hair flying in the wind…

And I reached with my left hand to get my phone out of my right side pocket … and Leah said, “Mom, just enjoy the ride!!”

And she cruised on by!

But she was so cute and adorable and I tried again to get my silly phone… (left hand to right pocket) and suddenly everything happened so quickly!

The next thing I knew - I was face down on the ground - my phone three feet from within my reach. The pain was intense, particularly because I’ve been nursing two injured shoulders for months.

Leah came rushing back, French people watched in their pretty way, and I gritted my teeth hard not to cry like a baby.

Leah quietly asked if I was ok… and then she saw the phone - and looked me straight in the eye, “Did you try to take a photo?”

I nodded.

Then she started to shake with laughter… “I told you mom! You never listen!”

Apparently, I looked a hysterical mess when she heard me crash and turned around.

At first there was compassion… but after it appeared I would live - she still hasn’t stopped laughing all day!

I guess I learned my lesson… with a few bruises and scrapes along the way!

The rest of the ride was beautiful!

The rest of the day was beautiful!

We have one last full day here tomorrow before we head back to some intense waters.

We have one week remaining to finish clearing out everything from my mom’s house - as it will hopefully have new owners by the end of April.

All this “resting and refreshing” is partially preparing us to let go of a place where we have made some of our dearest memories - Nanny’s House.

But God remains faithful. Coaching and guiding us… reminding us over and over of His faithfulness.

Reminding us that it is best to leave our hands wide open for Him to give - that we might receive… but also open for Him to take - that we might also receive…

Receive what is best and good - according to HIS wisdom and ways. Not necessarily what we prefer…

But all for His glory.
