Day Twenty Nine - Jan 29, 2019

Today we plowed through Module 11/12 in Biology… Not every topic is fun or exciting - and so the challenge lies with all of us to just respect the topic, study appropriately and, if necessary - just get it over with. There is only so much one can force teach Kingdom Animalia - Phyla Porifera, Cnidaria, Annelida, Mollusca and Platyhelminthes… And today began Phylum Arthropoda - Class Crustacea.

It didn’t even help that I whipped the preserved crayfish and frog out of the dissection kit - no one wanted to participate. We covered five common characteristics and Child Number Three declared she was finished with the freakish topic! My sweetheart Daniel (Child Number Two!) was lured in by creating radial/bilateral symmetry art to coincide with the topic - while Child Number Three hit the slopes with her dad after work.

The snow fell and the day passed. The faulty washing machine is even now still attempting to finish a mini load for the sixth time - as we wait two more weeks for the replacement. Dripping clothes are hanging from chairs and over heating vents… the trash needs to be taken out (again!) and the dishwasher is ready to be unloaded for the second time today. We are normal people.

So often I think we fool ourselves into believing half-truths about others when we view them in only one context… work, school, community events, church, or sports.

We can unknowingly manufacture a world about them where we compare ourselves to the reality we’ve created. And that comparison can get us into so much trouble!

Today, a friend had a test and we are hoping for good results. Another has a medical issue that we are praying will resolve itself. Another lost a mom… Another needs a job… Someone else needs a friend to arrive at their door…

And yet, perhaps from the outside - most might easily miss these needs and assume “all is well…

I challenge myself often to make myself vulnerable enough to be as genuine and authentic as possible. No - we don’t have to air all our dirty laundry - but we can take off any masks we often like to wear.

I believe a perfect man once walked the earth… He was born amongst the lowly and was buried with the rich. He came to defend the Truth so that we could live free. He set the example for good and true living so we could follow in His footsteps for a good and fruitful life. … and even now the washing machine has alerted me... It will not complete the current cycle and so it begins again…
