Day Two - Jan 2, 2019

We struck gold today! Literally...

Our oldest has been battling a planter’s wart and we’ve been using a combination of holistic and traditional medicines to treat the annoying problem. This past semester in biology, we studied Kingdom Fungi in detail and Kat’s foot has been providing ample opportunities for hands-on learning. (Ugh!)

Today we struck gold. We got to the root of the fungus, she experienced sensation during “surgery” and we saw blood for the first time. (She also smells like Christmastime in a pizzeria with the combination of frankincense, cinnamon, lemon and oregano!) We have needed to take careful and delicate care of her foot - while bravely scraping and cutting away at the calluses that have formed.

It reminds me of the gentle task God seeks to perform on our hearts daily… He loves when we finally sit and address the deeply rooted issues we have walked around with day after day.

As a mom of two kids taking biology this year under my direction, I am daily aware of my need for God as we follow this journey of home education. While we have excellent resources at our disposal - our need for God is felt often in this biology course. Yet, the gift God has allowed through this journey has brought much more than advanced academia… it has brought a love for learning and understanding about our Creator and our world. This past semester’s field trip to the mushroom factory provided laughter and priceless memories never found buried deep within the pages of our books.

Our dreary day wouldn’t be complete without the "never-failing-to-surprise” daily trek to the dog park. Dan and Leah attempted to perfect their tennis serves in between Nellie trying to steal their balls…

To top it off…it was hard to miss the newly decorated train car through the woods bringing a beautiful spot of color on such a cloudy day!
