The Cross of Shame

If ordinary men and women
were willing to look at perfection
and nail it to a Cross
of shame -

Crown themselves kings and
Worship their gods…

Why, then, are we still expecting
ordinary men and women -
to look upon innocence
and rise above…

And crown themselves
with something greater than -
convenience
arrogance
hostility

… for the least of these.

It’s why He came first -
to set before us
an example of Love
that we might follow…

And even when we fall -
His grace picks us up
sets our feet on solid ground
hides us inside the cleft of the Rock…

We are -
those ordinary men and women.
