Come to Me (Walk with Me) – June 2020

Are you tired?
Worn out?
Burned out…?

Come to Me.
And I will give you rest.

Walk with Me…
Work with Me…
Watch how I do it…

Come to Me.
And I will give you rest.

Are you burdened down by
heaviness,
Weariness,
godlessness,
senselessness, selfishness,
hopelessness?

Keep company with me…

Come to Me.
And I will give you rest.

Get away with me and you will recover your life.
I’ll show you how to take a real rest.

Come -- walk with Me... I’ll teach you how to live freely and lightly…
Come -- walk with Me… I’ll teach you the unforced rhythms of grace.

Come to Me.
And I will give you rest.

God is never taken off guard, surprised or astonished by anything. He sees. His heart leans in to the cries of humanity even as He desires to make everything well. He seeks justice, wholeness, truth, and abundance. He sees.

Wisdom cries from the streets:

“Turn your ear to wisdom (Jesus) and apply your heart to understanding His ways. If you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding - if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure -

Then you will understand the fear of the Lord…
And find the knowledge of God.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you,
bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart!”

Even as our Creator set the world into motion, He set in place a plan for humanity’s redemption. His Son.... He would become the sacrifice to make it possible for all humanity to be reconciled. He would come as a man, live amongst us… walk with us, teach us. He would show us how to take a real rest. He would teach us how to live freely and lightly.

He walked among the lowly. The poor. The marginalized. He ate with sinners, and the unclean. He spoke to crowds, performed healings and miracles... Yet - only a few walked with Him. Only a few dusted off their sandals and moved to the next town…

They were scorned, forsaken, ridiculed and rejected. They had no permanent place to call their home. They closed businesses, said farewell to family… all to walk by His side. To learn the unforced rhythms of grace.

Deep at the core of all humanity - a burning restlessness churns… waiting to be seen. Heard. Validated. Known. A desperate desire to matter. Hold value. Worth.

“Come to Me.
And I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.
I am gentle with a humble heart.”

And I wonder, could we pause in our striving even as the restlessness churns within - and allow our God to set upon our shoulders HIS yoke. His burden. His desire. And as we draw near, I wonder… could we then hear Him, as our CREATOR, speak of our inexplicable value and worth. Could we stand still long enough that we might hear His whisper deep within...

“Walk with me… learn from Me.”

The rest does not come in the form of passivity. It is an action of deep introspective surrender. It is the action of accepting the gift of perfect identity, value, and worth found at the foot of the Cross.

A perfect identity not achieved - rather, received. Seen, known, valued and loved by the Creator of the Universe.

And we walk… we march forward with His yoke falling upon our shoulders. Tasked with the knowledge that whatever the burden - He is the yoke. He is present. Aware. Never shocked. Never astonished or surprised. The same yesterday, today and forever.

“Come to Me.
And I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.
I am gentle with a humble heart.”
